New Year/Second Semester Speech
Good morning and welcome to the second half of the school year.
I am going to talk about 3 Habits which lead to success. Habits are things that teens do day after day, week after week and after a period of time become routine. These Habits are taken from Sean Covey’s book Titled “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens.”
Habit # 1 – Be Proactive – Highly successful students look for ways to deal with issues before they become a problem. For you, this might mean having a way to deal with school work that you do not understand.
For example you might routinely start with 1) Self-Study – Go back to the text book and your notes. 2) Find a friend – see if one of your classmates understands what the question is asking 3) Contact your teacher – make an arrangement to see your teacher after class if you did not get a chance to get help during the class period.
Habit #2 – Begin with the End in Mind – the school year will be over in 4 short months. What does that mean for you? Knowing what your goal is will allow you to plan for a successful conclusion.
Habit #3 – Put First Things First – Make a plan of what you need to accomplish each day.
Write the plan down in the same place each day. All of us have a long list of things to do. The hard part is to decide which things are most important. Most of us will do the things that we enjoy most first. Work on a way to ensure that the “important things” get the time that they deserve.
Students, I will leave you with the following questions: “when your school year ends, what will have been your greatest accomplishments? Where are you on your plan? What important things are still to be done?
The first half of the school year has been marked with many success stories.
Let’s work together for an even more harmonious and successful second half of the year.
